Important: All Carnarvon adult (18+) volunteers who work directly with children are required to submit a criminal record check [CRC] each year. This includes, but is not limited to, coaches, assistant coaches and on-field helpers.

Team Volunteer Positions

Below is an overview of the positions that are required to successfully run a Carnarvon baseball or softball team. Not all responsibilities are relevant to every division, but this should provide you with a basic understanding of what is expected in most cases.

Head Coach

  • Complete and submit a criminal record check prior to each season
  • Complete Carnarvon’s online coach registration prior to each season
  • If required by your division, complete the online NCCP Level 1 coaching certification (cost to be reimbursed by the league): http://nccp.baseball.ca/register.php
  • If applicable, attend the annual scheduling meeting and draft night
  • Attend every practice and game
  • Organize and execute practices and drills
  • Determine team line-ups for games
  • Have a thorough understanding of the divisional rules
  • Liaise with umpires
  • Send team communications as necessary

Assistant Coach

  • Complete and submit a criminal record check prior to each season
  • Complete Carnarvon’s online coach registration prior to each season
  • If required by your division, complete the online NCCP Level 1 coaching certification (cost to be reimbursed by the league): http://nccp.baseball.ca/register.php
  • Attend every practice and game
  • Assist with practices and drills
  • Have a very good understanding of the divisional rules
  • Help manage equipment
  • Run warm-ups
  • Base coach
  • Run the pitching machine (if required) and track pitch counts

On-Field Helper

  • Complete and submit a criminal record check prior to each season
  • Assist with on-field drills during practices in a non-coaching capacity (bring a glove and help out)

Team Coordinator

  • Act as the point person between parents and coaches
  • Communicate information about games/practices with families through email and other means
  • Set up schedules for field prep and scorekeeping (SignUpGenius is very helpful for this)
  • Liaise with division and uniform/equipment coordinators
  • Distribute raffle tickets and team photos
  • Provide general off-field assistance to coaches and families
  • Does not require a criminal record check

  • Attend all Carnarvon Board meetings (approximately once a month)
  • Maintain knowledge of Carnarvon Ball Club
  • Understand financial accounting for nonprofit organizations
  • Manage the Board’s review of and action related to the Board’s financial responsibilities
  • Work to ensure that appropriate financial reports are made available to the Board on a timely basis
  • Present the annual budget to the Board for approval
  • Review the annual audit and answer board members’ questions about the audit
  • Financial record keeping will take place in conjunction with a Bookkeeper.
