Carnarvon Ball Club is pleased to a NEW Girls Basketball program for girls born in 2005-2009. This is a developmental basketball program which is open to all girls who want to play or learn to play basketball. No basketball experience is necessary. Girls who register with Carnarvon will be placed on basketball teams that will be part of the Victoria and District Amateur Basketball Association (V&DABA or “Night League”). Night League is where girls can have tons of fun, make new friends, get a lot of physical activity and learn to play basketball or improve their skills if they already have some basketball experience.

What is Night League Basketball?
Victoria and District Amateur Basketball Association (V&DABA or “Night League”) is a non-profit organization which has run a community basketball league for boys and girls aged 9 to 17 since before 1934 (

In 2016/17, the V&DABA registered 123 teams with over 1200 players playing in 56 games per week. Coaches are usually parent volunteers and games are refereed by two certified officials from the Victoria Basketball Officials Association. The games at U-11 are 4-on-4 and the games at U-13 5-on-5. Whether recreational or highly competitive, Night League adjusts the level of teams often -so that all teams can play other teams at their own level and have a great time.

Night League will only accept team registrations with coaches already in place, and this is why Carnarvon is involved. To support individual players or small groups who want to play basketball, Carnarvon will accept individual registrations, create teams, arrange for uniforms and book gym times for practices. Coaches with complete teams can register on their own with Night League – or you can keep your team intact and just have Carnarvon help you with the logistics.

Carnarvon basketball teams need volunteer parent coaches in order to proceed to team registration with Night League. Carnarvon does not provide paid coaching services, so please volunteer to coach and we will make it as easy as possible for you by handling much of the administration.

Female coaches are strongly encouraged to coach with Carnarvon Basketball. Contact Lisa Rogers, Carnarvon Basketball Director, at if you have any questions about coaching.

How much does it cost to play?
The cost of individual registration with Carnarvon is $250. The fee includes a per team Night League fee (rental of the gyms for games, payment for gym supervisors, game directors and referees, and V&DABA administration costs), practice gym rental fee, uniform and equipment costs and a Carnarvon administration fee.
Individual equipment such as basketball shoes (recommended), warm-up hoddies/shirts, warm-up pants, water bottles, etc. are the player’s and parents’ responsibility.
When does the season start/end?

The basketball season generally runs from September to early March, with a break over Winter Holidays. Night League games start the week after Thanksgiving and are scheduled and organized by Night League.

How many times a week is Night League Basketball?
Night League is offered twice a week. There is one game and one practice per week.

When and where are the Games?
In previous years, U-11 Girls games have been on Thursdays, while U-13 Girls games have been on Thursdays or Fridays. All Girls games start at either 6:30pm or 7:30pm and are played at SJ Willis, Lansdowne or Central schools. At this time, we expect this to remain the same.

When and where are the Practices?
Practices are held on weekday evenings at a local elementary school. Practice gyms are based on availability at schools and will be booked in August, once we know how many teams will need practice space.

How many players per Team?
There are usually 8 players per team in U-11 (for 4-on-4 games) and usually 10 players per team (5-on-5 games). The maximum for a U-11 team is 9 players and for U-13 is 12 players.
